Singapore authorities announced the confiscation of more than 35 kilograms of rhinoceros horns, marking the country’s largest-ever seizure of such contraband. The haul, valued at over USD 800,000, was uncovered in a suspicious shipment bound for Vientiane, Laos.

On November 8, the illegal cargo consisting of around 20 pieces of rhinoceros horn was detected after SATS Group, the air cargo handler at Singapore Changi Airport, alerted local police. This successful operation was confirmed by the National Parks Board in a formal statement posted on a U.S.-based social media platform.

"This seizure surpasses Singapore's previous record of 34.7 kilograms set in 2022," the statement noted.

Alongside the rhinoceros horns, an additional 150 kilograms of unidentified animal parts were confiscated. Authorities are currently analyzing these specimens to determine their origins.

Singapore maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy against the illegal trade of endangered wildlife and their derivatives. The transport of species protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) without proper permits can result in severe penalties, including fines up to SGD 200,000 (approximately USD 153,680) per specimen and imprisonment for up to eight years.

The incident underscores Singapore’s commitment to combating illegal wildlife trafficking through vigilant monitoring and enforcement efforts.
