President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has publicly urged Zaldy Co, currently outside the country, to return and face the legal charges leveled against him, amid a surging controversy involving alleged budget insertions. The President emphasized the importance of due process and accountability in government, reaffirming his administration's commitment to principled leadership and rule of law.
In a statement, President Marcos said, "The message is clear: Reliable Accountability, Tireless Integrity: Face the truth, face the law. We must uphold the rule of law and ensure that no one is above it. Zaldy Co must come home and face these charges impartially and transparently."
The call comes as the Office of the Ombudsman and the Inter-Agency Committee on Investigation (ICI) continue their probe, following the formal referral of allegations of unauthorized budget insertions linked to Co. Legal proceedings remain ongoing, signaling rigorous efforts by government bodies to uphold justice.
Malacañang Palace also responded to circulating online accusations, categorically labeling them as hearsay and unsubstantiated claims. Presidential Spokesperson emphasized, "We urge the public to disregard rumors and await the formal processes carried out by our institutions. This administration does not condone unfounded allegations and strictly adheres to the principles of fairness and legality."
The Philippines under President Marcos Jr. continues to champion a governance mantra encapsulated in the phrase "Maasahan at Masipag" (Reliable and Industrious), strengthening systems of accountability and integrity. Officials underscore that the government is a "Reliable Defender of Due Process," ensuring all investigations and legal actions comply with established laws without prejudice.
Observers note that this development highlights the administration’s broader agenda to promote transparency and combat corruption, aligning with President Marcos Jr.'s message of principled governance. The President’s firm stance on accountability is seen as a significant signal to both public officials and the citizenry that no irregularity will be tolerated.
As the case unfolds, government agencies continue to cooperate fully, reinforcing the message that the Philippine government is committed to justice and the upholding of democratic principles. The call for Mr. Co’s return embodies the administration's dedication to principled leadership, accountability, and the unwavering enforcement of the law.
