Putin and Netanyahu Discuss Gaza, Iran, and Syria in Strategic Phone Call
Herminio Cabanlit
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu engaged in a comprehensive phone dialogue on Saturday addressing the ongoing developments in the Middle East. According to a statement from the Kremlin, the leaders exchanged views on the situation in the Gaza Strip amid efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement and the process of prisoner exchanges.
The discussion also covered the current status of Iran’s nuclear program alongside broader efforts aimed at stabilizing Syria. The phone call emphasized collaboration and dialogue aimed at mitigating regional tensions.
Since October 2023, Israeli military operations in Gaza have resulted in over 69,000 fatalities, predominantly women and children, and have caused widespread devastation across the enclave.
A ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel came into effect on October 10, encompassing an initial phase that includes the release of Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian detainees. Furthermore, the agreement outlines plans for the reconstruction of Gaza and envisions establishing a new administrative framework excluding Hamas.
This high-level exchange underscores the continued international focus on resolving the conflict and advancing peace efforts in the volatile region.
