Mayor Joyce Uncovers ₱96.5M 'Ghost' Flood Control Project in JAS
Perfecto Ilagan
Mayor Jason John Joyce has brought attention to what he describes as a "ghost" flood control project in JAS, with an estimated cost of ₱96.5 million. This discovery emerged following an inspection conducted by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, including Secretary Dizon and Mayor Benjie Magalong.
The construction company linked to the project—St. Timothy, owned by Discaya—was previously unknown to local government authorities. Officials only became aware of the firm's involvement through the "Sumbong sa Pangulo" platform. Mayor Joyce has encouraged residents to inspect their communities for similar projects that may be incomplete or fictitious.
He highlighted additional concerns such as sections of the National Highway that are officially recorded as finished, despite remaining unfinished on the ground. This discrepancy could potentially hinder funding for the uncompleted portions, as government records reflect these works as complete.
Despite facing pressure and threats related to his efforts to expose these irregularities, Mayor Joyce remains committed to pursuing transparency and accountability. He urged the people of JAS to continue striving for improvements in their locality, emphasizing his determination to advocate for their welfare even at personal risk.
"I call on my fellow JASENYOS residents not to lose hope and to keep demanding accountability," he said, underscoring the importance of community involvement in fighting corruption and ensuring quality public service delivery.
