The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday, January 5, 2025, expressed support for a proposal to offer a reward for information leading to the arrest of former Ako Bicol Party-list representative Zaldy Co, who faces cases related to alleged widespread corruption in flood control projects.

In a statement, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said that the PNP is currently studying the implications of recommending a bounty while strengthening their manhunt operations alongside the National Bureau of Investigation, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and local government units.

He added that they are working closely with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Office of the President to expedite ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend the former lawmaker.

"At this point, the PNP has not yet made a formal recommendation, but we are ready to support whatever policy decision the national government may take. Our focus remains on locating and arresting Zaldy Co using all legal means available," Nartatez said.

This proactive stance aligns with directives from President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to strengthen law enforcement operations and ensure that fugitives facing serious charges are held accountable.

According to Nartatez, the reward system could significantly help gather information from communities.
