Australian Bondi Shooting Suspects Spent Nearly a Month in the Philippines Last November

The Philippine Bureau of Immigration (BI) revealed on Tuesday, December 16, that two individuals suspected of involvement in the fatal Bondi shootings in Australia had spent nearly a month in the Philippines in November 2025. BI Spokesperson Dana Sandoval disclosed that Sajid Akram, 50, an Indian national, and his son Naveed Akram, 24, who holds dual Indian and Australian citizenship, arrived together in the country on November 1, 2025, traveling from Sydney, Australia.
According to Sandoval, the father and son declared Davao as their intended final destination during their visit. They subsequently departed the Philippines on November 28, 2025, boarding a connecting flight from Davao to Manila before returning to Sydney.
"They entered the Philippines without any companions," Sandoval added.
Authorities report that Sajid Akram was killed during law enforcement operations following the Bondi shooting on December 14, which occurred amid a Jewish Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, Sydney. Naveed Akram remains hospitalized following the incident. The attack claimed 16 lives, including one of the suspects.
Investigations by Australian officials uncovered two flags affiliated with the Islamic State militant group inside the suspects' vehicle, raising concerns about possible extremist motivations behind the attack.
