Perfecto Ilagan
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reported on Sunday, September 21, that it rendered medical assistance to 99 participants of the anti-corruption rallies held across Metro Manila. By 5 p.m., the PRC Command Post confirmed that 75 individuals received vital signs monitoring, while 19 were treated for minor ailments such as dizziness, cramps, and sprains.
Among the cases managed was one major incident involving a suspected cardiac arrest. Despite this, the PRC stated that no patients required hospital transfers during the events.
Additionally, three people experiencing symptoms related to breathing difficulties and hypertension were taken to the PRC medical post for further care, and another individual sought treatment by walking in.
To support the medical response, the PRC mobilized 14 ambulances from various chapters including its National Headquarters, Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Pasay, Rizal-Makati, Valenzuela, Malabon, Rizal-San Juan, Rizal-Pasig-Pateros, Rizal-Muntinlupa, and Marikina.
Further logistical support included deployment of two fire trucks, two food trucks, one water tanker, one VERV vehicle, one 6x6 truck, eight scooter units, and the establishment of an emergency field hospital.
PRC response teams were strategically positioned at key rally points such as EDSA Shrine, Luneta Park, and Mendiola, where thousands gathered to demand accountability regarding alleged irregularities in government projects.
